Nursing. I am currently choosing between prospective hospitals.

My family and I moved from the Philippines to the U.S. in August of 2005. Before coming to the U.S., I was a junior at the University of the Philippines and majored in Biology (pre-med). When I arrived in the U.S., I made certain changes to the career path that I was going to pursue. I have always had a passion and a genuine interest in the allied health/medical field, and so I decided to become a nurse.

I chose Bergen Community College because of its notable reputation of providing a solid heuristic and intensive academic nursing program, with rigorous admission standards and criteria and a consistently remarkable success rate. I also enjoyed the institution’s diverse atmosphere, comprised of students from more than 140 countries around the world. I am astounded by the numerous opportunities that Bergen provides its students for learning, discovery, self-enrichment and holistic growth. Bergen has undoubtedly become a key element in fostering my integral development. I’m confident that my professors have prepared me for future challenges and opportunities.

My favorite academic experiences include skill-intensive nursing classes, in which I utilized a great deal of time management and academic discipline. I also enjoyed my honors courses that provided me with challenging work. Additionally, I participated in various national, state-level and international endeavors, wherein I had the honor of representing Bergen at the 2008 United Nations Alliance toward Harnessing Global Opportunities Team on Global Governance, and the 2008 New Jersey All-State Academic Team ceremony. These two events, among others, truly emphasize the values that Bergen has instilled in me; the value of academic excellence with social responsibility.

In learning, the possibilities are endless and it is ultimately up to us to make things happen and realize our dreams. At Bergen, the opportunities are already out there and are waiting to be unraveled, to showcase the talents and skills of the individual. Education is not merely a means to life, it is life itself, and we must make the most out of our opportunities.
