Bergen Community College

In 2003 I left Guatemala looking for better opportunities. I attended Clifton High School; after graduating in 2006, I intended to pursue a career that would allow me to demonstrate my academic and social skills. Since I had visited Bergen on a field trip with my high school the previous year, I knew that this college was the best place to start. Therefore, I started attending Bergen in the fall of 2006.

I chose Bergen because it was not only nearby and affordable, but it was also ranked in the top community colleges of our nation. Furthermore its esteemed faculty and associate degree program would prepare me for transferring to prominent universities. Finally, what really made it for me was having access to Bergen’s technology labs and its illustrious library that provides many resources to enhance my education.

I would say, enjoy your college years, you can always have fun and get good grades. Challenge yourself; there is nothing better than proving to yourself that you can do something. Allow yourself to shine in Bergen’s sports, clubs, events, and organizations, this will help you to meet new people, and you will be impressed in how much it benefits you.

I’ve had countless experiences in Bergen, but in the classes of Sociology, Western Civilization, Astronomy, and Philosophy, I learned to see the world differently. My professors’ enthusiasm made learning delightful, and soon I discovered myself wanting to learn more. I will never stop being grateful to them for enriching my life with their vast knowledge, not only in their respective subjects, but in matters concerning the entire world.
