I was one of a few in my high school graduating class who did not go directly to a traditional four-year college. I attended the HoHoKus School in Ramsey where I obtained my degree in Medical Assisting in 1996. My mom suddenly died right after my graduation and I took some time off before working for various companies in an array of fields. After getting married in 1999, I decided to finally pursue my college goals. I started by attending Bergen Community College on Friday nights and took one class a semester. A few years ago, I began to take online courses. Between work and family commitments, these online classes have allowed me to attend school following the birth of my three children.

I chose Bergen because it is close to home, affordable, and it’s a highly esteemed two-year institution. I was confident that I would receive a quality education at Bergen Community College. And I have!

My best advice would be to go after your goals, even if they seem far off and unattainable. When I started at Bergen and was only able to take one class at a time, I thought I would never see the light at the end of the tunnel. But a person must remember that every step forward is a step in the right direction, no matter how small that step may seem.

Picking a favorite academic experience at Bergen Community College is difficult because I have had nothing but positive experiences. I really enjoyed my psychology and sociology classes because they have given me great insight, which applies to aspects of my every day life and future career.

I was able to participate in Honors English courses, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I love being challenged to my fullest extent!
