After working in advertising for the last eight years, I fulfilled my life-long dream of becoming certified as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B) for a local town in Bergen County. I really enjoy working in the healthcare field because I’m helping to make a difference in people’s lives. My job is also comprised of many different facets. I never know what type of situation I’ll be involved in so I’ve been thoroughly trained to stabilize patients by utilizing my problem-solving skills.

In addition to my job as an EMT-B, I also worked as a patient care technician at a local hospital. These positions made me realize how much I enjoy helping other people and I decided to enter the nursing program at Bergen Community College. I’ve learned so much from my classes because they are so challenging and interesting.

After graduation, I hope to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. I also want to become a Registered Nurse in either the fields of emergency medicine, labor and delivery, or mobile intensive care (flight or ambulance). Currently, I am starting the second level of classes in the nursing curriculum and expect to graduate as a Registered Nurse in 2009.

I chose Bergen Community College because their Nursing program has a wonderful reputation. I also liked the institution’s convenient location and affordable tuition prices.

Be determined, work hard, and love what you do. And if you are interested in the healthcare field, you should become an EMT. There isn’t any other job that parallels this type of experience. It’s also important to always treat a patient as though they are a member of your own family.

I really enjoyed the clinical experience in my first level nursing class. It provided me with the opportunity to utilize the skills and knowledge that I have obtained in the classroom and apply it to an actual hospital setting.
