Hector Rivera
Respiratory Therapy
Clifton
Biography:
My name is Hector Rivera and I'm a transfer student from Passaic County Community College. I will start the Respiratory Therapy program at Bergen this September. I'm excited and honored to be part of this highly regarded and recommended college as I pursue an associate’s degree in Respiratory Therapy.
Why did you choose Bergen Community College?:
I chose Bergen because it offered the program I was looking for. The school I transferred from did not offer the program—nor did any other school in my home county—so I chose Bergen. I hear that it has an excellent program.
What advice would you give a prospective student?:
What advice? Well I'm example of it. I decided to pursue an education at 38 years old, married with children and working full time. You can do it, no matter what obstacles you have to endure. Today, many colleges and universities offer online courses and flexible scheduling so you can achieve your goals. It is never too late for an education. You can do it—just focus, prepare, and dedicate yourself.
What has been your favorite academic experience so far?:
Too many to speak of! But if I were to choose, I would say the science classes, although I have been overwhelmed by so much information in such a short time. I give credit to the people who are in the medical field—they deserve every dollar they receive.
