Degree Seeking:
A.A

Biography:
I am a 19-year-old NJ STARS student, and I am about to finish my first semester at Bergen. In the future, I would like to become a journalist, which is precisely why I chose to major in Liberal Arts with a concentration in Literature. I ideally wanted to major in English, but this was not listed as an option under the transfer programs—Literature was the most fitting. I believe that this major will fine tune my reading, writing, and analytical skills—all of which are necessary to a journalist. After I obtain my associate's degree, I plan to transfer to NYU-College of Arts & Sciences, Columbia, or Princeton with a major in Journalism.

Why did you choose Bergen Community College?:
I primarily chose Bergen for financial reasons. However, I had eventually come to realize that receiving my associate's degree in Liberal Arts from Bergen would upon improve my chances of being accepted into a prestigious four-year university.

What advice would you give a prospective student?:
"Don't judge a book by its cover." Take advantage of everything Bergen has to offer you: field trips, workshops, clubs, etc. Most importantly, work hard -- don't underestimate the challenges Bergen will present to you.

What has been your favorite academic experience so far?:
Receiving an “A” on my second Multivariable Calculus exam -- I had received a “C” on the first one! After the first exam I thought, "Wow, this is ridiculous. I really shouldn't have taken this class. I want to give up." I pulled myself together though and promised myself I'd get at least a “B” on the next exam. Getting an “A” after studying -- ACTUALLY studying -- reminded me that working hard really does pay off in the end.
