Degree Seeking:
A.S.

Biography:
Throughout my whole life, I have been involved with athletics. In high school, at both Foreman Prep and New Milford, I played soccer, basketball, lacrosse and ran track & field, all at the varsity level. I have continued to pursue my interest in sports at Bergen. I was a forward for the 2006 Bergen Men’s Soccer team and had a really good season, including one game where I scored four goals. After the season had ended, I was voted to both the Men’s Soccer All-Region and All-Conference first teams. I am also working hard in my studies and coursework. In the future, I hope that my performance in school and on the field leads to admission and possibly a scholarship at a four-year Division I school. Right now, my top two prospects are Central Connecticut State and the University of Hartford. After college, I hope to become a physical education instructor and coach high school athletics. I have had many great coaches who have inspired me over the years, and I would love to be able to coach kids in the future who may need the same kind of guidance on and off the field.

Why did you choose Bergen Community College?:
Bergen has been a great first step towards preparing for life at a four-year school. I am getting a lot of my general education requirements out of the way here, and, as a result, I will be able to focus on classes in my major in the next school.

What advice would you give a prospective student?:
Stay on top of your studies and don’t let yourself fall too far behind before asking for help. As a student athlete, you’re going to be busy often, but the moment that you feel you are getting lost on any subject, seek extra help. The teachers know that you are working hard both in the classroom and on the field, and if you let them know that you need assistance, most will be there to provide it.

What has been your favorite academic experience so far?:
My favorite academic experience has been Introduction to Art and Visual Culture. This class has taught me how to interpret art from another perspective that was not initially apparent. I have found new ways to analyze and explain visual arts and I did not have this ability before taking this course. The teacher was really great too.
