Degree Seeking:
A.A.

Biography:
My name is Anna and I come from Ukraine. I finished high school in my country and came to the United States four years ago. After finding out that I didn’t need any SAT scores to get into Bergen Community College and that it wasn’t expensive, I came here to study art.
First, I had to take Grammar, Reading and Writing Level III of the American Language Program. At that time I wasn’t very excited about it because I didn’t realize how much it could help me. Not only did the ALP program allow me, an international student, to gain necessary reading and writing skills, but it also helped me to deal with culture shock by giving me the confidence that I sometimes lacked.
After completing ALP, I took regular courses and in the summer of 2006, I graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Graphic Design.

Why did you choose Bergen Community College?:
I came to Bergen Community College because I wanted to study art and it was affordable, but what I got here was more than I could ever dream of right after coming from another country.

What has been your favorite academic experience so far?:
I couldn’t help noticing the friendly and kind nature of Bergen professors, whose professionalism opened up the whole new world of Graphic Design for me.

Do you participate in other clubs or organizations while enrolled at Bergen? If yes, please list them here.:
I was on the track and field team and a captain of the volleyball team. I also worked in the English Language Resource Center as a tutor.
